Working on 1099 on h1b visa

I work on h1b right now and I got an offer from another job and get paid on 1099.

Question is, will this affect my h1b status and is that legal?

If you work on this 1099 for same employer that is fine, if you are trying for a different employer with same h1b... no it is not authorized
