How long can i stay out of status in US after getting h1b approved from a consultancy?

I got my h1b with the help of a consultant. . I will be on his payroll and I Need to find a sub-contracting position to work through the consultant. How long can I be without finding a sub-contracting position?

 

What is the latest I can start work with an approved H1B visa?
