H1b reciept number and work

My h1b is in progress and I got my reciept number as I was changing my status from H4 to h1b.
Now, my employer is asking me to work even before h1b approvaljust with the h1b notice.
What should I be doing ideally?

This is not legal, you are not yet authorized to work. Your employer should be knowing that.
