Is there a way to check the change of status with h1b if employer can't tell the updates?

My H1b was approved in I-797 and I-94 as well. My visa is effective from Oct 1,2013.
I have no idea if my H1b was filed with status change or not. Is there a way to check this since my employer has no idea about it

If your previous status was not on h1b, and form I-797 is above I-94, then you will get approval for both H1b as well as Change of status request.
Your employer may not be able to tell, howevevr, your employer's attorney should be able to answer all of your questions.
