My H1b petition was approved in Jul 2006. I left US in Jan 2008 and I want to return to US and found an employer who can file my H1b. Just checking if I will be covered under cap exempt.
Until what time I will be cap-exempt ?

Yes, you will still be cap exempt until 2014. So hurry up and follow the process needed.
Even if this becomes problem after Jan 2014, then employer can still file under new quota coming in April 1st with an effective start date on Oct 1st.
