1. Since I didn't get job, can I work with the previous employer on L1b till I get job?
2. Can my wife work as long her EAD is valid?

If you don't get a job, then H1b status is invalidated. If you have no work, then you will be out of status and benching is not allowed. You can even talk to your H1b sponsorer to withdraw H1b petition.
