Dear candidates,
please try to be professional whenever you are looking for a new project or change of employers. Please try to be genuine with your requests and with reasonable demands to meet.
I am a IT recruiter, working for one of TOP 20 Consulting companies in USA, with very good track record of hiring record number of candidates for my clients in USA
I wanted to share a case which i recently handled, the candidate reached out to me asking for a new project with employer change he was working for top 5 Indian company and living in a tax free state in southern USA. He showed much interest to join us and every actively looking to move out.
I found him a two year project matching to his skills and other southern tax free state with much lower living expenses, he wanted a salary jump of 50% which we agreed to and confirmed he would start in two weeks notice.
After the final interview and getting the project he got back saying he wanted a 90% jump to join. it was really tuff to get these numbers once committed to our client. We wanted to deliver this candidate and took hit in our margin and we manage get him a 20% more. that's almost 70% to his current salary, + relocation cost + H1 transfer and Premium cost + GC to be done on day one. the over heads cost a company a solid $10-12K. the candidate accepted to take it. After few days the candidate vanished saying he is not interested to join and leaving our company and the client at a tight spot. it was one of our biggest accounts and a crucial project for us. it left us at a bad note at the client and loosing future business with them.
Do you think it was justifiable to ditch at the last movement?
Do you think asking for 90% salary hike is genuine? that's after the interview?
Don't the candidate's responsibility to research before taking the interview?
Do you think after receiving all of his demands and not accepting the project is professional?
Few cases like these really moves the recruiter not to hire H1 candidates (even if they are genuine) fearing a similar non deliveries.
All i wish is if you are looking for a job keep things upfront want you want, research about the company and the client before you take the interview, look for the living expenses and then decide your salary expecting and be professional and be committed once you accept.
