Does approval for Stem Extension cancel H1B approval?

I work as IT Consultant. My OPT expires in July 2014. Will I be eligible to apply for Stem extension and H1B at the same time in April 2014.
If H1B is approved prior to Stem extension approval, will H1B visa be cancelled?

Certainly not. There won't be any issues since H1B will be valid from October 1st. Once you reach this date, your status will be updated to H1B automatically.
