can h1b holder be an active member of trust meant for schoool in india?

My family is starting a school in India and they want me (h1b) and my wife(h4 ) in the committee of the trust. We will be involved in day to day planning and managerial works.We will not be drawing any salary. Is this illegal while we are on h1b visa?
