An important aspcet is references, you have to make sure yours are good. Never use anyone assuming they will give you a good reference; a suprising number of references come back lukewarm or negative, and the potenial employee has no idea. Make sure your references communicate what they would say about you, and have your references check by a company like Allison & Taylor if you're questioning what they say about you.
