Is it legal to approach USCIS directly to check my h1b sttus?

My h1b status is in "Intial review". I want to upgrade to Premium processing as I paid $1000 + so that I can start working soon.
Employer is responsible for paying the fees, however they take their own sweet time.
So in this case I can pay PP fee and will i be able to start working then?

Will i be able to write a check to USCIS from my account? Will this affect my visa approval ?

While some lawyers think the employes can pay the fees for premium processing. Others still think that they will not be able to pay the fee. So, unless this is cap exempt, and no other visas left, then you should be talking to your attorney . They wil guide you.
