Will my wife be able to transfer her h1b to another employer?

My spouse came to US on her L1b and her company converted it to H1 after her 5 years of working on L1b. 

Right now she got her GC processing started and i-140 approved. She is completing 6 years now in US and wants to join another company through h1b transfer.

 

Can she continue her work as well as maintain h1b transfer status? Should she work on W2 as individual contractor?

If she needs extension beyond 6 years, then her h1b needs to show that she got approved i-140 petition.
